Childrensparties.ie has teamed up with 7UP Winter Wonderland to help you enjoy a festive treat in Dublin this Christmas by giving two lucky families the chance to win a trip to Winter Wonderland for its opening night on December the 8th. The golden ticket will see the winning family zipping across Ireland’s largest ice rink, enjoying ringside seats to the Christmas Circus show and access to all the thrilling rides.

Raise smiles and funds for Temple Street

Temple Street’s annual “Trick or Treat for Temple Street” fundraising campaign is taking place once again this October and you’re invited to ‘get spooky’ and host a ‘frightfully good’ fancy dress party!

Staff and students from Primary Schools nationwide are invited to take part in the Trick or Treat for Temple Street campaign by hosting  a frighfully good fancy dress party at school on Friday, 21^st October 2010. Children can be asked to come to school in fancy dress and contribute a small amount, such as €2, to the Trick or Treat for Temple Street campaign.

This year, primary schools that host a Halloween party and return their funds raised to Temple Street will be in the running to win a €500 voucher for library books, courtesy of Gill & Macmillan Primary.

Halloween games such as Bobbing for Apples and prizes for the best fancy dress costume all add to the fun of the day! Children can bring their own ‘treat’s to the party so that there is no cost involved for the school and Temple Street will supply a party pack with themed decorations for the party. Your local paper may also like to print pictures of the children dressed up and enjoying the party whilst helping a very worthwhile cause.

Last year we raised over €100,000 and we are hoping that with your help 2011 will be our most successful year yet!

Birthday Fun under the Sun

Parks offer a great alternative to indoor birthday parties. Public parks are free and provide fun outdoor activities under the sunny skies. State parks are also a viable option and the cost to enter is next to nothing compared to most expensive theme parks. Due to their vast area, parks can easily accommodate gatherings of all sizes.

Bounce Houses Birthday Parties

Bounce Houses are a huge hit with both children and adults. Not only do they keep the little ones busy, they also give the parents a much needed break and help them socialize with other people. Bounce house birthday parties for kids are generally held in industrial parks but depending on the season and your area, they can even be held in your local park.

Fast Food Restaurants

Fast food is cheap, delicious and more importantly, a favorite among kids. Fast food restaurants are a great place to hold birthday parties for kids. However, that’s not the only benefit they offer. Most fast food restaurants come with a kids playing area. As soon as the kids are done eating their meals, they can simply storm into the play area with their newest action figures as the parents watch nearby.

Make Your Own Cake

You can get a great cake from the local super market. However there is something special about making your own custom cake. It is relatively easy to make and it doesn’t have to be perfect as long as it has all the ingredients kids love, mainly chocolate.

Trim Down the Guest List

Obviously, the less people you invite to your kids birthday party, the lower the cost. Start with your child’s closest friends and family and work your way down.

Children used to big birthday parties might find it difficult to adjust to a smaller one. Nevertheless, parents should not hesitate to talk to them and let them know that this year’s birthday party will not be as extravagant as the previous year. As long as they get to invite their friends, recieve presents, a big cake and their favorite meal along with a few other extra privileges for the day, they will be as cool as a cucumber. Recession does not mean that you cut down on your kid’s birthday parties. It just means that you think smarter when throwing one.

At this time of year the enthusiasm for tennis is high.  Everyone gets addicted to Wimbledon and all things tennis and all of our budding little Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams wannabes have nothing but tennis on their minds.  So if you are not a millionaire with your own tennis court and want to throw a wimbledon party for your child what do you do??

Invitations

Design the invite to look like an entry ticket. The perforations don’t have to be real, just draw them in.  Mention things  like Centre Court for the venue, dress code tennis whites etc.    On the day have a “turnstile” for entry (perhaps your side gate if you have one) and tear their “tickets” in half for authenticity.

The Party

Not many of us have a tennis court in our back garden but invest in a beach tennis set, they are pretty inexpensive.  If you can’t find one with a net, construct one out of a piece of clothes line or similar.  You only need something for them to aim over.  Use some strong white tape to set out simple boundaries for the court either on tarmac or grass, wherever you have the largest area.

Next you need a scoreboard.  Use a blackboard if you have one and if not use a large sheet of paper pinned to your shed or wall.  Play a round robin tournament so each child gets to play against everyone else and gets plenty of action.  When they are not involved in the match, let them take it in turns to be ball boys / girls, lines people or scorekeeper.  Best to have an adult as umpire.  Keep each match short, perhaps the best of three games.  Hold semi finals and a final and have some “trophies” and medals to give out.  You can give prizes for sportsmanship, best shot etc to make sure everyone gets a prize.

The Fare

You need to have lots of dainty sandwiches with the crusts cut off and of course strawberries and cream / ice cream!!!  Make up some diluted orange (it can be Robinsons to be authentic but unlikely anyone will notice) and chop lots of fresh summer fruits into it.  Get some plastic champagne glasses to serve.   For the cake, you can decorate a plain sponge cake to look like a tennis court with some food colouring and icing.

The Party Bags

A simple party bag could include a tennis ball, a headband or wristband and perhaps a medal for the tennis tournament!

And it’s game, set and party!
