TRICK OR TREAT PARTIES ARE ‘FRIGHTFULLY GOOD’ FOR KIDS

September 14th, 2011

TrickOrTreat2011_WHTbgRaise smiles and funds for Temple Street

Temple Street’s annual “Trick or Treat for Temple Street” fundraising campaign is taking place once again this October and you’re invited to ‘get spooky’ and host a ‘frightfully good’ fancy dress party!

Staff and students from Primary Schools nationwide are invited to take part in the Trick or Treat for Temple Street campaign by hosting  a frighfully good fancy dress party at school on Friday, 21st October 2010. Children can be asked to come to school in fancy dress and contribute a small amount, such as €2, to the Trick or Treat for Temple Street campaign.

This year, primary schools that host a Halloween party and return their funds raised to Temple Street will be in the running to win a €500 voucher for library books, courtesy of Gill & Macmillan Primary.

Halloween games such as Bobbing for Apples and prizes for the best fancy dress costume all add to the fun of the day! Children can bring their own ‘treat’s to the party so that there is no cost involved for the school and Temple Street will supply a party pack with themed decorations for the party. Your local paper may also like to print pictures of the children dressed up and enjoying the party whilst helping a very worthwhile cause.

Last year we raised over €100,000 and we are hoping that with your help 2011 will be our most successful year yet!

You can also take part by

  • Volunteering for our crazed collection crew to sell ‘spooky spotlight’ mini torch keyrings at selected shopping centres around Ireland, or
  • Donate to our on-street scream teams

Trick or Treat for Temple Street aims to raise smiles and funds for life-saving medical equipment for Temple Street.

To give your school the chance to win €500 worth of library books, register your party with Marianne Rowan at Temple Street Fundraising Office on 01-878 4639 or visit www.templestreet.ie

Kids Birthday Parties ? Surviving the Recession

June 22nd, 2011

A birthday is a once a year occasion. Hence every effort is made to ensure that the event is a success. Unfortunately, the current recession has crashed one too many parties and birthday celebrations are no exception. This puts the parents in a rather difficult situation. While they are desperately trying to save every penny, they certainly do not want to see their financial situation ruin the most important day of their children. With that being said, there are a few things that families can do to keep their kids birthday parties within their budget and plan a great celebration, all at the same time.

Birthday Fun under the Sun

Parks offer a great alternative to indoor birthday parties. Public parks are free and provide fun outdoor activities under the sunny skies. State parks are also a viable option and the cost to enter is next to nothing compared to most expensive theme parks. Due to their vast area, parks can easily accommodate gatherings of all sizes.

Bounce Houses Birthday Parties

Bounce Houses are a huge hit with both children and adults. Not only do they keep the little ones busy, they also give the parents a much needed break and help them socialize with other people. Bounce house birthday parties for kids are generally held in industrial parks but depending on the season and your area, they can even be held in your local park.

Fast Food Restaurants

Fast food is cheap, delicious and more importantly, a favorite among kids. Fast food restaurants are a great place to hold birthday parties for kids. However, that’s not the only benefit they offer. Most fast food restaurants come with a kids playing area. As soon as the kids are done eating their meals, they can simply storm into the play area with their newest action figures as the parents watch nearby.

Make Your Own Cake

You can get a great cake from the local super market. However there is something special about making your own custom cake. It is relatively easy to make and it doesn’t have to be perfect as long as it has all the ingredients kids love, mainly chocolate.

Trim Down the Guest List

Obviously, the less people you invite to your kids birthday party, the lower the cost. Start with your child’s closest friends and family and work your way down.

Children used to big birthday parties might find it difficult to adjust to a smaller one. Nevertheless, parents should not hesitate to talk to them and let them know that this year’s birthday party will not be as extravagant as the previous year. As long as they get to invite their friends, recieve presents, a big cake and their favorite meal along with a few other extra privileges for the day, they will be as cool as a cucumber. Recession does not mean that you cut down on your kid’s birthday parties. It just means that you think smarter when throwing one.

Wimbledon Themed Party

June 20th, 2011

kids_tennis

At this time of year the enthusiasm for tennis is high.  Everyone gets addicted to Wimbledon and all things tennis and all of our budding little Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams wannabes have nothing but tennis on their minds.  So if you are not a millionaire with your own tennis court and want to throw a wimbledon party for your child what do you do??

Invitations

Design the invite to look like an entry ticket. The perforations don’t have to be real, just draw them in.  Mention things  like Centre Court for the venue, dress code tennis whites etc.    On the day have a “turnstile” for entry (perhaps your side gate if you have one) and tear their “tickets” in half for authenticity.

The Party

Not many of us have a tennis court in our back garden but invest in a beach tennis set, they are pretty inexpensive.  If you can’t find one with a net, construct one out of a piece of clothes line or similar.  You only need something for them to aim over.  Use some strong white tape to set out simple boundaries for the court either on tarmac or grass, wherever you have the largest area.

Next you need a scoreboard.  Use a blackboard if you have one and if not use a large sheet of paper pinned to your shed or wall.  Play a round robin tournament so each child gets to play against everyone else and gets plenty of action.  When they are not involved in the match, let them take it in turns to be ball boys / girls, lines people or scorekeeper.  Best to have an adult as umpire.  Keep each match short, perhaps the best of three games.  Hold semi finals and a final and have some “trophies” and medals to give out.  You can give prizes for sportsmanship, best shot etc to make sure everyone gets a prize.

The Fare

You need to have lots of dainty sandwiches with the crusts cut off and of course strawberries and cream / ice cream!!!  Make up some diluted orange (it can be Robinsons to be authentic but unlikely anyone will notice) and chop lots of fresh summer fruits into it.  Get some plastic champagne glasses to serve.   For the cake, you can decorate a plain sponge cake to look like a tennis court with some food colouring and icing.

The Party Bags

A simple party bag could include a tennis ball, a headband or wristband and perhaps a medal for the tennis tournament!

And it’s game, set and party!

Birthday Party Themes

June 19th, 2011

Arranging a party for boys and girls can be a very difficult venture. Putting together and agreeing about a guest list, settling on what kind of party refreshments you will provide and the suppose-to-be hassle-free task of locating a appropriate location. So frequently we as parents typically look over probably the most crucial areas of planning our child’s party. That single crucial aspect should be to actually ask your youngster what sort of party she or he would like to have this coming year.

Many youngsters will return with some form of themed birthday party. In the event that your little one doesn’t (which is completely fine), you’ll want to ask them if they want to have a themed birthday party. So why, do I advocate a themed birthday party? Well, there are various reasons why theme specific parties are a fantastic choice for your child’s birthday party.

First, and the most significant reason is it supplies more fun and enthusiasm for your kid. Almost all kids are fascinated with something. Usually this can be a animated personality, sports hero, or a performer. Your son or daughter will basically go crazy with excitement after they realize their entire birthday party consists of something they genuinely adore. Secondary, as soon as your youngster understands that you just threw them a party based upon something they are serious about, they will recognize just how much you treasure and adore him or her.

The third and most crucial reason, in addition to making you look like a hero in the eyes of your kid, is definitely the convenience of organization. It may sound unusual, but usually organizing a birthday with a theme is sort of easier to do than just planning a general birthday party. The ability to enter a party supply store or purchase the supplies online (normally much cheaper), you can actually get everything you need in one site. The cake and food can even be either made at home and decorated with materials you can discover at the local big box store. Many bakeries will custom make you a birthday cake centered on the party’s theme.

Including distinct birthday party themes into your own child’s big day can create memories they will recall for the rest of their life. Just think about a few of the parties you’ve attended both as adults and children. I actually can remember the birthday party themes of almost all I attended. That being said why not create memories for your youngster and throw a theme-based birthday party? You as well as your little one will be happy you did.

What to Consider when Planning a Kids Birthday Party?

June 16th, 2011

There are typically at least half a dozen birthday parties marked in a person’s yearly calendar. However for every child, it only comes around once a year. Therefore a child’s birthday is an event of great significance and careful planning is required for the birthday party. Here, we will go over some things that must be considered for the event so that people can get a better idea of how to make the most out of a kid’s birthday party.

Setting up a Budget for Kids Birthday Party

This may not be the first question many people ponder over but it is a very important one nonetheless. Setting aside a budget beforehand gives parents a clear idea of how to go ahead and what to do for the birthday event for their child. It is not uncommon for parents to get carried away and go overboard out of love for their child. However, with a little research and careful planning, everyone can enjoy a good birthday event while staying within the allotted budget.

Where to Hold the Kids Birthday Party

This is usually one of the first things people ponder over. Depending on the number of people they are inviting, the venue to hold the birthday party can change from your house to the local park or a nice restaurant. Holding it at your own place of residence gives your complete independence to do whatever you want for the event. Local parks are also a great outdoor spot to hold a kids birthday party.

Kids Birthday Checklist – How Many to Invite

This is also a very important question that all families must go over. Again, setting up a budget makes this part much easier. A lot of people get carried away here as well and overwhelm themselves with too many people. It is always best to sit down and plan out the list of attendees. Obviously the birthday child has a huge say in this as his best and closest friends have to be at the event. Start from there and move down the order from family and relatives to friends and colleagues.

Kids Birthday Party Theme – Many to Choose From

Birthday themes are extremely popular especially nowadays with so many themes being adapted straight from Hollywood movies. For parents who wish to setup a birthday theme for the event, it is a good idea to ask the birthday boy or girl directly as to what they want. If they are not old enough to answer that question, then parents themselves can come up with something creative.

A birthday is the one day of the year every child looks forward to. All parents strive to make the birthday event better than the previous one. Going over the above mentioned tips will help them immeasurably to start things off. Planning is a crucial part of any event. It’s always best to discuss all options and come up with a game plan for a kid’s birthday party.

Fun Kids Birthday Party Themes to Make Your Day

June 10th, 2011

Each year, kids look forward to their birthday with anxious anticipation. In turn, parents strive to make their kids’ party dreams come true. The following birthday party theme ideas will help you create a fun and memorable party filled with entertainment, excitement, and enjoyment!

HOW TO COME UP WITH FUN KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY THEMES

To come up with a fun theme, start by thinking about your child’s favorite book, cartoon character, TV show, movie, animal or sport. You can then create the party around that particular idea.

For example, The Little Engine That Could book might become a train party. The Three Little Pigs could evolve into a farm party. Cartoon characters like Scooby Doo, Barney, and Mickey Mouse, all make wonderful theme parties. If your child loves superheroes, then Batman or Spiderman, are great options for creating a costume, action-packed theme party.

KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY THEME INVITATIONS

To make fun invitations, you’ll want to be sure to do a play on words to coincide with your theme, along with making interesting and creative invites.

For example, if you’re having a pirate party you could make your invitations look like treasure maps. Crumple brown paper bags to look like parchment paper. Draw a map leading up to your house, which would be marked with an “X.” Say something like, “Ahoy Matey! Prepare to Set Sail on the Seven Seas. All Ye Scallywags Come and Join Me. Chart Yer Course for (address) on (date). Don’t Be Late or Ya’ll Walk the Plank!

For a bowling party, you might create an invitation in the shape of a bowling pin and say something like, “Hope You Can ‘Spare’ The Time to Celebrate.”

For a Dora the Explorer party you might say something like, “Hola Amigos (boy) Amigas (girl). Join (birthday child’s name) for a fiesta! Then add your party details. RSVP to (Name & Phone) so Swiper Fox doesn’t swipe your spot.

Remember, your invites are the first impression your guests will receive as to what your party is all about. Just be creative and you’re sure to start the pre-party excitement.

KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY THEME DECORATIONS

Once you have your theme figured out, the ideas for decorations will start to flow. If you’re going to use balloons and streamers, the theme will help dictate the appropriate colors. For example, a Batman theme party would lend itself to black and yellow, whereas a tea party might be lavender, pink, mint green, and cream. A princess party calls for a royal affair sporting purple and gold.

If you’re looking to make a major statement, then you’ll want to think about turning the party room into that theme. For example, turn an entire room into an undersea adventure for Finding Nemo. Cover the ceiling with a net and fill it with blue and white balloons to create the clouds. Cover the walls with blue butcher paper for the water. Attach various fish pictures from fishing line and hang from the ceiling.

Let your creative juices flow and voila’ a themed party room will emerge.

KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY THEME FOOD

Once again, let creativity rule. Think of your theme and see if you can come up with some ideas using a play on words. Create a sign and place by each food item to identify it’s new theme name. For example, serve peanut butter & jellyfish sandwiches and Goldfish crackers for a Finding Nemo party theme.

At a superhero party, you could serve mini super “hero sandwiches.”

Bottom Line: Use a little creativity and imagination, have fun, think outside the box, and you’ll up with some fun kids birthday party theme ideas to satisfy all of your party-goers.
